There’s No Place Like Home

Raising a child is like holding a mirror up and asking, “Is this who I am?” The answer challenges us to clarify our values and dreams, to strive to be at our best, and to be more conscious and intentional as we become the parents our children need.

I launched No Place Like Home Parent Coaching to support you in revealing and realizing the life you and your family want. My practice serves families from all backgrounds, places, and circumstances by promoting:

  • optimal development,
  • personal growth,
  • thriving family systems, and
  • improving your quality of life.

There is no place like home. It’s the one place where we can find safety and solace, where we can be accepted for who we truly are, where we can love and be loved unconditionally, and where we can experience uncompromising trust and an unbreakable sense of connection. It may not have always been this way, but it can be, and we all deserve that it should be.

Finding My Way Home

My professional path is anything but a straight line. I started out in construction and ended up as a professional chef for 15 years. (How does that happen?!) Opportunities appeared and they just felt right. I stepped out, purely on Faith, when someone at church encouraged and paid for me to become a mediator. Everything shifted.

For over 20 years, my work-life has centered around child abuse prevention, domestic violence intervention, youth development, coaching educators, and family support.

As a mediator, I practiced in Core, Domestic Relations, and Parent/Adolescent dispute resolution privately and for Kansas Courts. At that time, I also worked in social justice and violence prevention through the American Friends Service Committee.

A few years later, I became a licensed Religious Science Practitioner. I gained valuable experience supporting others’ spiritual growth and healing. To promote peaceful principles and practices, I also chaired the Kansas City Task Force for A Season for Nonviolence for several years.

Then, I worked to reduce relationship violence as a prevention education specialist and developed One Homeless Night, a program addressing youth homelessness.

In 2009, I became an ACT Raising Safe Kids Master Trainer. ACT is an American Psychological Association positive parenting program. As a Master Trainer, I have facilitated hundreds of workshops for thousands of parents and certified more than 100 ACT Facilitators nationwide.

I must admit, at times, I didn’t know where I was going or how I was getting there. I faced personal and professional difficulties along the way. Even in those times I found learning and growth, and, in the end, I realized I was exactly where and who I was meant to be at every moment.

When I learned about the Parent Coaching Institute, I knew instantly it was the next step along my path. PCI helped me dig deep to explore practices of self-care, where and how to find flow, the dreams we have for our amazing families, and a bottomless well of resources and practices to become better parents and people. I don’t pretend to have all the answers, but I do know some good questions to ask.

This Is My Home

My family lives in Overland Park, Kansas, a suburb of Kansas City. I enjoyed being a stay-at-home dad when our daughters were young. Mine were the first hands to hold them, and I can’t imagine letting them go. They are both avid readers, exceptional students, the kind of friends anyone could wish for, and the source of my immeasurable pride. My wife is an outstanding marketing and communications professional, my dream partner, my cheerleader, and one who makes me wonder what I did to deserve someone so extraordinary.

Of course, we have our challenges too—autism, disability, giftedness, technology, anxiety, depression, sexuality, different parenting styles, lions, tigers, and bears (oh my!). But we stick together no matter what.

Your Journey Home

I will meet you where you are and walk beside you on your journey to creating your ideal home life. Your agenda is mine. Your family is precious. Your trust is sacred. I am honored to support you in your renewal and personal transformation.

You can expect:

  • A confidential, co-creative process between you and I, and among your family.
  • A relaxed, conversational style where you can feel comfortable speaking freely.
  • Feeling heard as your thoughts, feelings, concerns, and wishes are validated and affirmed.
  • You and your family members’ strengths, values, resources, and life-giving energy to be activated.

What Parents Say After Coaching With Me

I was struggling with my spirited middle child when I connected with Jeff. Parent coaching was a difficult journey and sometimes I questioned the process, but Jeff was consistent and persistent. He challenged me to look to myself first. I couldn't tell you what exactly worked but six months later I've never been more confident in my parenting or felt more connected with my son. I attribute this positive swing to Jeff's coaching.

As my daughter transitioned into the tween stage, I became less confident in my parenting. I reached out to PCI who connected me to Jeff. Instantly I felt comfortable within the coaching/coachee relationship and appreciated his ability to be both personable and knowledgeable. Several months after coaching, I still find myself thinking back on our conversations for guidance and motivation. The tween years are going as well as I could hope for, and the relationship with my daughter continues to be loving and open.
